FAQs

Is melting marshmallows the same as marshmallow fluff? ›

Is Melting Marshmallows the Same as Marshmallow Fluff? Not quite. Marshmallows contain gelatin, which helps them hold their shape. Marshmallow fluff is always in “fluff” form and doesn't contain any gelatin; just egg whites and cream of tartar to help stabilize it!

Can you add marshmallow fluff to ice cream? ›

Sometimes when you make homemade ice cream and let it set in the freezer, it almost gets too solid and becomes icey. The marshmallow fluff in the ice cream base keeps that from happening in this s'mores ice cream! It keeps it nice and fluffy and smooth. Really, it makes it perfect.

Can I use melted marshmallows instead of marshmallow creme? ›

What is a substitute for marshmallow cream? You can make marshmallow cream by melting down marshmallows with corn syrup. I would suggest 2 cups of mini marshmallows with ¼ cup of corn syrup.

Why are my homemade marshmallows not fluffy? ›

Even just a couple degrees too hot or too cool makes all the difference. If the sugar isn't cooked hot enough, they'll be mushy (and possibly contribute to the "soggy" factor mentioned above). If the syrup is cooked too hot, they'll set too firm and chewy and lack volume.

Can you substitute marshmallow fluff for marshmallow creme? ›

Is Fluff the same as Marshmallow Creme? Generically, they are the same, but Fluff is made by a costly, batch-whipping process. Creme is whipped in a continuous mixing process.

How do you harden marshmallow fluff? ›

One of the easiest ways for marshmallow fluff to get hardened is through the exposure of cool temperatures and air.

What happens if I freeze marshmallow fluff? ›

It turns out that freezing marshmallow fluff makes for a tasty, chilled dessert that's similar to ice cream! When marshmallow fluff is frozen, it will get firmer in texture but still maintain scoopability much like ice cream does. The reason it doesn't freeze completely solid is due to its high sugar content.

How do you make ice cream Fluffy? ›

Butterfat also adds texture insurance against iciness, especially handy if your base has watery elements like fruit purée. Paradoxically, more butterfat also translates to a lighter, fluffier ice cream, which is why super dense gelato relies more heavily on milk than cream.

Do you add butter to melt marshmallows? ›

However, if you need the marshmallows to be melted for use in a recipe like a mousse or cereal bar, then it's best to do so very gently in a saucepan, ideally with other ingredients like butter, milk or water, depending on your recipe.

How do you melt marshmallows into liquid? ›

Add the water directly into the bowl with the marshmallows and microwave in 10-second bursts. After each round, stir them well and be careful as the mixture and bowl will be hot. Continue microwaving in short intervals until all the sweet confections have thoroughly melted.

Can you eat marshmallow creme on its own? ›

Anything Whipped Cream Can Do, Marshmallow Whip Can Do Better. Pipe it, dollop it, eat it by the spoonful. Oh, and if you want to keep it around for one or two days, that's fine too.

Can dogs eat marshmallows? ›

Marshmallows, regardless of their sweetener content, are loaded with sugar, which should never be given to your pet. Even if your dog consumes marshmallows without artificial sweeteners, you should still be cautious as the high sugar levels can lead to an upset stomach, pancreatitis, and vomiting.

What substance in a marshmallow makes it fluffy? ›

In marshmallows, the foam is made up of air suspended in the liquid sugar mixture. Gelatin is probably the most important part of a marshmallow, because it serves as the scaffolding that keeps all the sugar and flavor goodness in place and gives the marshmallow its stretchy, gooey texture.

Can you whip marshmallows by hand? ›

(A stand mixer is really the best tool for the job but I used an old-fashioned hand beater and a lot of elbow grease.) Spread the mixture into the prepared pan using a lightly oiled spatula. Set aside for at least 1 hour, or until the marshmallows are firm and cool.

What's another name for marshmallow fluff? ›

Marshmallow creme (also called marshmallow fluff, marshmallow stuff, marshmallow spread, marshmallow paste, or simply fluff,) is a marshmallow confectionery spread similar in flavor, but not texture, to regular solid marshmallow.

What can I substitute melted marshmallows with? ›

Whipped Cream: In some recipes or applications, whipped cream can be a suitable substitute for marshmallows. It adds a light and fluffy texture. Meringue: Whipped egg whites with sugar can provide a similar texture to marshmallows. They can be baked or torched for a crispy exterior.

How much marshmallow fluff equals mini marshmallows? ›

- one tablespoon marshmallow fluff equals 1 marshmallow.

Can I melt store bought marshmallows? ›

In a nonstick pot, melt the marshmallows over medium low heat, stirring until smooth. Immediately spread the marshmallows out into the prepared pan. Dust the tops with icing sugar and let set for 20-30 minutes.
